BUY MORE WASTE

Winning an award stands for a positive achievement. But can you still call it a positive achievement if it is at the expense of the climate? Despite the negative climate impact of our consumer behaviour, advertising continues to proclaim the message that we have to buy more. This award opens the dialogue with advertisers about how we can change this message to a more climate friendly one.

With ‘buy more’, advertising is indirectly stimulating waste production. To make this connection clear the award has taken the form of a garbage bag and its material is made from an advertising waste stream; advertisement flyers.

The award emphasises the negative impact of advertising on the climate and sets out to move the industry in a positive direction. As most awards do, positive achievements deserve to be rewarded. Breaking the award and recycling the material into a new form symbolises the correction of an advertising company’s impact. The complete form is built out of three steps, each a representation of achieving a more positive impact on the climate.
